just bought an electron on Ebay for old times sake and to do a bit of retro ass progrmming.,,only giving me shades of grey on a samsung led screen, using the composite output. my question is. given that processors have elvoved exponentionaly, how does the aassembler in bbc basic work,ie opp codes, when my processor is probably using qa totaly different set of opp codes. I assume its all software related but not sure of the mechanics and is my electron faulty or just to old to work on the latest tech.......thx for any info,

On the BBC Micro there was an internal link which needed to be made in order to enable (PAL) colour on the composite video output. Maybe the Electron was the same; I can't remember. You should definitely get colour on the UHF (RF) output though.

Each version of BBC BASIC has an assembler for the processor on which it is running. So the BBC Micro and Electron versions have a 6502 assembler, the Archimedes and RISC OS versions have an ARM assembler, the Z88 and Amstrad versions have a Z80 assembler, the MS-DOS version has a 16-bit x86 assembler and the Windows version has an IA-32 assembler.

thx for the help...I will do a web search and try and find which mod to make to obtain colour.
cannot seem to tune my hyper tech tv to the electron.
I will play around with it for a bit and probably sell it back on Ebay, having quenched my retro desire and return to the comfort of windows and your excellent BBC basic.
I have the micro men on the Sky hard disc and watched it a few times now...excellent.
