Merriam-Webster's Online Dictionary defines[3] micromanagement as "manage[ment] especially with excessive control or attention on details". Dictionary.com defines micromanagement as "manage[ment] or control with excessive attention to minor details".[4] The online dictionary Encarta defined micromanagement as "atten[tion] to small details in management: control [of] a person or a situation by paying extreme attention to small details".
Not a challenge. A logical reason why things are at the stage they are at

If someone else admined the Forum would you still support it with your expertise and knowledge?

I don't think I have much "in-depth expertise" that hasn't already been recorded in the Wiki and elsewhere.

I will. If we go down that route I would want to retain a place to make announcements, so it would probably be my intention to use the old Yahoo group for that. That's exactly the situation with Liberty BASIC: Carl administers the Yahoo group but the Conforums board is run by enthusiasts.
I'd be interested to learn from other members whether they agree with your analysis.

I'm not sure about this...
Liberty BASIC has a very active community plus there are several moderators who are very involved and appear to be experienced and knowledgeable programmers. Moreover, the moderators are very committed to Liberty BASIC and spend a lot of time on the forum contributing or helping others out with their queries; that is, Carl can afford to let others take the lead.
I'm not sure that is the case with BB4W. Are there sufficient numbers of people out there willing to be moderators who have the time, commitment, knowledge and experience to support Richard?
Maybe if Richard took more of a back seat others would come forward and fill the gap and the community would develop? God knows Richard deserves a break but would sufficient people of the right calibre would come forward to make it happen?
In any case, if this did happen I see no reason for Richard not to continue as a moderator (if he wants to) if others come forward to join him? Carl is still included as a moderator on the LB conforum; even if he doesn't need to reply / contribute to the discussions (because others do so) he still has the option to do so should he so wish. I think you've hit the nail on the head there. From a sheer numerical standpoint I am reasonably sure there are many more active Liberty BASIC users than BBC BASIC users, so the 'pool' from which enthusiastic and knowledgeable moderators can be drawn is larger. There is also, I fear, a 'cultural' difference that can mean BBC BASIC users (who are predominately British) are less inclined to give of their own time to help others.

I suspect the issue that concerns Ady and others is not so much who has the role of moderator, but who is the owner of the forum and therefore has the power to appoint moderators or even to close it down entirely. In the case of the LB forum Carl is not the owner.

But that ability could be withdrawn at any time by Alyce (not that I'm suggesting she would). I do, sadly, have past experience of people who initially seemed to be enthusiastic and supportive, but later turned against BBC BASIC (and me!).
I wonder why this issue has come to a head now. Activity on this forum is low, partly because there are not many active users of BB4W and partly (I hope) because the available documentation is sufficiently good that the answers to most queries can be found without having to ask here. What aspect of my 'micromanagement' is causing so much annoyance?

I see. It's pretty clear that in any revised admin arrangement you wouldn't want me to be a moderator, so the approach proposed by Richey isn't going to be acceptable.
