Game Programming Competition !!!
Post by kigohhere on Nov 20th, 2017, 08:13am

Hello, this is a very interesting competition. The theme is really interesting!

Choice of language is up to participant. Using BBC Basic to write your game should be a nice promotion for BBC Basic!

I did start making a game for this competition, but I very quickly ran out of steam! I didn't get very far with the project, although here's a video recording from the latest (16-Jan-2018) version:

Suffice to say, with the deadline a few days away, it's too unfinished to submit as an entry in the compo.

That's a unique game. You definitely have a skill set many only dream of having.

You ever thought of trying to make a RPG or Multiplayer Role playing game? ( knight vs world type of game )

No, but I think it would be a major undertaking! Some research into basic AI techniques could prove beneficial for such a game.

Unless I'm mistaken, no RPGs exist for BB4W, so perhaps it's something that you could turn your attention to? smiley

I have always wanted to do that. It definitely wouldn't be an easy thing to create.

I made a small RPG back in 1990 in turbo pascal 6.0 with frame animation for attacks. I believe that was the last one I made. So as you moved a new frame would update the screen and so when a creature attacked there would be 3 stop frame animations as it attacked. (of course the banshee in one animation didnt give you a fighting chance. So there was 0 mistakes you could make.)

Making such a game would have to have a personal gain for me. And competing with existing games like (massive multiplayer online gaming) is something to consider. (meaning I would have a huge task ahead of me making just a RPG)

But on that thought, a RPG is not so common for a offline game, as most games require a internet connection.

It wouldn't just be AI involved. There would be tonnes of graphics and worlds to create and nothing could be poorly made.

And that could be the only way I could justify such a project.

I will think seriously about this and may make it a priority.

Look. There are only five entries till now. The qualities of these entries are ok but may not be too excellent.

Actually, your video is nice. I hope that you can finish your game before the deadline.

Another BBC BASIC user submitted a game to this competition.

I also reported this in Richard's forum but he was not so surprised.
