I expect that someone is going to ask me to define an "active user", which would be a little tricky! I'm not sure how to sensibly define one, but for the purpose of this poll, an active user is someone who uses BB4W to write programs at least occasionally (perhaps at least once every 3 or 4 months). I think it's reasonable to say that someone who has BB4W installed on their PC but hasn't written a program with it for 3 or 4 years cannot be described as an active user.

I voted for #2 (17 to 29), but I feel it's closer to 17 than 29!

The BB4W 'scene' does now feel pretty much dead, or not far off. Can anything be done to reverse this sad trend?

The world really has moved on...

I think that this is a trend affecting BASIC in general and is not confined to BB4W. BASIC used to be the go to (sic) language for beginners but seems to have been largely replaced by languages like Python and Scratch. Having said that, I think there are still lots of active BBC BASIC users out there and a proportion of those use / also use BB4W. In fact, if you add all of the users of different BASIC dialects together, there are still a lot of BASIC users out there but not as much as there used to be and I bet most of them are of an older demographic.

I suspect that the number of active users may be higher than anyone thinks.
In my own case, I only post to the forum when I am really struggling with a problem, or have a relevant input to a discussion, and I'm sure many others are in the same situation.
Part of the challenge of programming is to try to find/work things out for yourself, and BB4W has excellent help and resources.
I have tried some other programming languages but keep returning to BBC Basic for its ease of use, quick results and simple syntax (curly brackets everywhere a la Python? not for me). Maybe the way forward would be to incorporate some of the best features of other languages into BB4W but without submerging it.

Count me as active, but only barely so.
