Microsoft have announced the Surface 3 tablet (not to be confused with the Surface Pro 3) which - since it has an Intel Atom processor - runs 'proper' (x86) Windows:

So this should be ideal for those who want to run BB4W on a tablet.

I'm currently having fun with BB4W on my new Asus Transformer Book T100TAF. Cheaper and less powerful than the Surface 3, but perfectly fine for my needs (so far, at least).

Yes, there are a number of 'separable' notebooks, but AIUI the Surface 3 is a 'true' tablet in the sense that it doesn't come with a keyboard (although one is available as an add-on). Current versions of BB4W are designed to be driven by touch.

At the risk of straying off topic (and this is a genuine question), is there really a difference in this case?

As far as I can see, my Asus without a keyboard is as much a tablet as the Surface 3 - the keyboard it comes with is just that, a keyboard. Asus does other Transformer models that have SSD hard drives in the keyboard for added storage, but the T100TAF does not. Also, I'm willing to bet anyone trying to do any "serious" work on the Surface 3 will buy the "optional" keyboard.

I can't speak for your specific product, because I don't know the details, but generally I would say it's a matter of how the various compromises pan out. If the machine is designed as a 'separable' notebook then there will probably be aspects of its use as a tablet which aren't as optimised as they might be in a true tablet. Similarly a tablet with an optional keyboard may lack some features of a separable notebook.

For example the Surface 3 has both front and rear facing cameras, because that's what you expect of a tablet but is probably less common in a separable. On the down side, a tablet plus optional keyboard may provide poorer connectivity than a 'docked' separable.

If I wanted to do 'serious' work, I wouldn't buy the Surface 3 at all, I'd buy the Surface Pro 3! That's really the point: the Surface 3 is principally a tablet designed for touch control, it doesn't make a very good general-purpose PC even with the keyboard.

I always look for an Intel processor in a tablet so it's compatible with not only BB4W but can be used for intel asm stuff and my XP software
Current unit is a samsung Q1 ultra which cost buttons but as with many of these gadgets the screen is too small for my ageing eyes, particularly if you want to use it extensively as an e-reader

The 10inch screen is still just a bit too small for me and hopefully they will bring out a 12inch version at some point
You can get a nice A4 type display with a 12 inch screen

I have around 50GB of searchable pdfs and with a decent screen you can carry around an entire searchable library consisting of hundreds of books and thousands of magazines on whatever interests you in life

Some Android tablets use an x86 processor (the Tesco Hudl 2 is a well-known example in the UK) so theoretically could run my version of BBC BASIC, but of course it's the wrong Operating System. Anybody fancy porting BB4W to Android/86?!
